Meal plan

Catered residents at the University of Leeds can eat in the Refectory and at Hugo. The Meal Plan enables you to purchase meals Monday to Sunday, using the GFaL Rewards app.

How does it work?

Your Meal Plan is topped up daily during term time with credit that can be spent in the Refectory and at Hugo.

Unused credit will not be carried over to the following day.

Weekdays8am – 6.30pm£16.10 per day
Weekends10am – 2pm£8.90 per day

How do you access your credit?

Download the GFaL Rewards app to access your Meal Plan credit.

  • Sign up

    Sign up with your name and University email address and verify your account with the six digit code sent to your email

  • Scan

    Scan your in-app QR code at the till when making a purchase to use your credit.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I access my Meal Plan credit?

Your daily credit be accessed through the GFaL Rewards app.  

Once you’ve downloaded the GFaL Rewards app and verified your account, you will be able to enjoy a delicious selection of meals and grab and go items in the Refectory and Hugo, using your Meal Plan allowance.  

To set up your account, sign up to the app using your name and University email address. This email is linked to your Meal Plan allowance. Verify your account with the code sent to your University email address. Your balance will then be visible on the app home page.  

Please speak with a member of staff in the Refectory if you have any issues accessing your daily allowance, or contact [email protected].

What if I don’t have access to a smartphone?

If you require an alternative method to access your Meal Plan credit, please speak to member of staff in the Refectory or email [email protected].  

If I forget my smartphone, what are my options?

Don’t worry, we won’t let you go hungry! Please speak to a member of the Refectory team who will be able to help and ensure you have your Student ID card with you.

Where can I use my Meal Plan allowance?

The Meal Plan allowance can be used in the Refectory  and at Hugo.  

Can I spend more than my daily limit?

Yes! If you want to spend more money you can pay extra at the till, or if you’ve added your payment card to the GFaL Rewards app, you can use that for the remaining balance. 

Will I receive loyalty points and stamp rewards on qualifying items when using Meal Plan allowance to make a purchase?

No, Meal Plan students will not receive loyalty points and reward stamps on purchases made using the Meal Plan allowance.  

What if I can’t get to the Refectory before 6.30pm?

If on certain days you won’t be able to get to the Refectory before 6.30pm, please inform the duty manager before 11am that day. They will arrange for a packaged meal to be made up for your collection. 

What happens if I need to collect food over the weekend?

If you need to reserve a meal for collection over the weekend, then please inform the Refectory duty manager before 11am on the Friday morning before the weekend. They will arrange for a packaged meal to be made up for your collection. 

What happens if the Refectory is closed for an event?

Sometimes the Refectory is used for events and this means it may be closed. All Meal Plan students will be contacted via email informing them of this and you will have the option of collecting a takeaway meal for that day.
